History

The University began when A Agricultural & Mechanical College of the State of Mississippi (or even Mississippi A&M), one of the national Land-Grant Colleges established after Congress passed the Morrill Act in 1862. It was created per Mississippi Legislature on February 28, 1878, to fulfill the mission of offering educational videos around "agriculture, horticulture and the mechanical arts . . . without excluding other scientific and classical studies, including military tactics." A university received its 1st students in the fall of 1880 in the presidency of General Stephen D. Lee. Inside 1887 Congress passed the Hatch Act, which provided for the establishment of the Agricultural Experiment Station in 1888. A university has since got its mission expanded & redefined per Legislative.

By 1932, once a Legislative assembly renamed a university when Mississippi State College, it consisted of: a Agrarian Experiment Station (1887) a College of Engineering (1902) a College of Agriculture (1903) a School of Industrial Pedagogy (1909) a School of General Science (1911) a College of Business & Industry (1915) a Mississippi Agricultural Extension Service (1915) & a Section of Continuing Education, (1919). Farther, within 1926 a university experienced received its number one accreditation per Southern Association of Colleges & Schools.

By 1958, whilst a Legislative assembly over again renamed a university when Mississippi State University, a Grad school got been organized (1936), doctorial degree software online got begun (1951), a School of Outdoors Resources experienced been established (1954), & a College of Arts & Sciences experienced replaced a General Science School (1956).
